Default Underground air raid shelter now covered up in Liverpool? Does anyone know their locations?

    Hi,

    ADVERTISING

There are many many air raid shelters that were dug into the ground all over Liverpool and swiftly covered up after the war. Does anyone know their locations around your area and beyond?

They may have looked/ or not looked like the attachment.

Botanic Park, alongside the Littlewoods Building, is still there.

There was an article on it a while ago in the Echo, with pics of the interior.

When I was a teenager and going to WHISTON SECONDARY MODERN at the back of our sports field we had around 10 of the things, but the only thing we thought was strange and covered it during a history lesson our teacher said when war was declared officialy these air raid shelter's were put very hasty and quick he was saying that if they had acted quicker what they should have done is buried every one level with the ground, ( especialy ours so I don't know about others) a hole was dug but not very deep and these were put in then covered and grass was laid on the top, but when you walked towards them you can actually see them on top of the ground, so if you were the enemy flying over you could see that the ground was raised, we cleaned one out I'd hated the smallness of it I stood outside and took the rubbish out then used it for storing

I managed to get inside this with a few other underground people a good few years ago. It was built in a H shape at every stage so looked like a line of H's (on their side) if looking at the plan. We did lots of measurements down there too and had a look at some of the escape hatches. Very strange to wonder around in before you got your bearings and realised how it was set out. Still in very good condition too!
