    Default Gottfried Sandrock

    Hi All

Gottfried Sandrock was a German Soldier and Officer during WW1. Some of you may have read the thread about him that his Grandson Egbert put up on The Great War Forum.

Egbert has kindly allowed me to include Gottfried's story on the Wartime website.

Please go and read it on the link below. It is a long story with lots of photos so you will need a bit of time to read it, But it really is worth it. it will show you a fighting man who loves his family. It is very sad at times. It brought a tear to my eye when I first read it a few years ago and again when I worked with Egbert to add it to the website.

It could be a film or a book. That was suggested to Egbert a few times over the years. A journey into the past that allows us to see how the Germans were effected and shows they were just the same as the men on all sides.

    Very sad, but very educational.

A moving story, it show's the human side of war, and soldiers on both sides are just ordinary human beings with loved ones waiting at home.

I took the time to read this story.

So sad - the little shoes, the Father Christmas mask, those pre-written address stickers which were never used, and those last words to his wife. Very sad.

I agree Spike, that it would make a thought provoking book or film.

Some of the items really touch you Lindy, so sad.

It is also a trip back in time, some brilliant artifacts there.

Here is the link to the original thread on the Great War Forum.

Egbert produced the items over a 2 month period. It was incredible to read this thread.
