what I did was when they have finished flowering, cut them back
dig them up. In the new hole I put some compost and re planted.
They were fine the next season

Move the roses only when the soil is cold.. the 'sleeping' season..

    January is perfect..
if they are well established cut them back to an outward pointing bud about 12/14 inches from the ground..
(Best to find out what type of rose you have before pruning...Hybrid Tea, Floribunda etc..)

Dont use compost.. it is not needed, and it is too fibrous and drys out too quickly..
unless you use a loam (soil) based compost.. that's not needed either for roses..
put Bonemeal in the topsoil mix.. and keep well watered...
make sure you 'heel' them in till the soil is very compacted..
you do this to avoid 'windrock'
windrock kills many roses....it is the soil under the rose moving and creating air gaps
rain gets into the air gaps and turns to ice, which kills the rose..
windrock is caused by the wind moving taller roses...
not really a problem with lower roses.. but best starting off doing the right thing..

Roses will grow in any soil.. but never replant a new rose in a hole where other roses have been..

Roses are easy to grow.. they like a sunny position..

    Hope this helps..
need any more help on anything gardening just get in touch..

    Gerard..
