Thumbs up CHILDE OF HALE WOOD CARVING CHOPPED DOWN [REST IN PIECES] PICS A PLENTY!

Today was the day when the Childe of Hale wood carving was chopped down! I was there to take photos as the big man was taken down due to it being unsafe.

Quite sad really as I know it has a small place in many people's hearts, my wife and kids love it.

    Anyway........

Thanks for the photographs, Kev. Sad to see that the carving had to be removed due to it being unsafe. Maybe they can later erect a permanent replacement, maybe one made of stone rather than wood.

Cheers, there are plans subject to lottery funding, for a brass/ metal structure with a more traditional representation of the childe :-)

I think his grave in the churchyard is sufficient, perhaps they could spend more on that area, and make it more presentable.

It may be to grown ups ...I see your point...but a lot of children loved that carving and was the only "vision" of John Middleton that they could relate to...a bloody big grave doesn`t give them a face does it ?

Thanks Oudeis! Job situation in Liverpool in the mid 50s was so bad, had to go and work for ICI in Northwich! thus my reason for living in Marbury. It was a change from city life , but I must admit I enjoyed the time there, and fished the Marbury Mere! (now called Budworth Mere I believe). Cheers
