    Default UNSEEN AND UNPUBLISHED - L3 IN 1974 & 75

These cranes are building the very part of the Central Library that is currently being demolished to the rear. My brother was working here at the time when what is known at Clayton Stack (as it's in Clayton St) and Picton Stack (the part of it directly attached to the Picton Library) was built. They were moved down to the library's book stores at Mercer Court off the Strand near to where the Queen Elizabeth Courts now stand.

The first one is taken in March 1974

The second one is taken in February 1975

The next photo shows what was built back then having bitten the dust already. I posted this and another one or two some time back on the 'old buildings' thread.

The older photos are looking North across the Churchill Way flyover showing Fontenoy Gardens, Byrom Street and the heights on Lace Street which are called Adlington and Bispham.

They come down a lot quicker than they go up.

Tis true Gnash. I didn't realise the demolition was going to be so large scale though.

    Ah! Sweet memories.
The girl of my dreams lived in Fontenoy Gardens.
    Nope! She will remain nameless.

Cheers Mart, my sentiments exactly and as you know the many emails I get asking me to forward copies of those unearthed gems to their parents and grandparents for pleasure and enjoyment make it all worthwhile as we can all go and photograph the now. Hats off to the LRO for archive all their records and making them available.

ellergreen. That is so totally unfair. We want a name and we want it now
