    Default Beatles covers

Chris Evans has been playing an hour of Beatles covers this morning and it suddenly dawned on me that I dont like any of em. Beatles music is only any good to me if original. You can keep all your Shirley Bassey, Frank Sinatra, Cockney Rebel, Joe Cocker covers etc. In my opinion, they have never done the songs justice and usually end up with murderous renditions of darn good music.

Spot on, there are not many "cover Versions" that are at least as good, if not better than the original.

I don't like many Beatles covers. I think Candy Flip made a valiant effort of Strawberry Fields and perhaps there's one or two others but nah, the Beatles are the Beatles which is why they have so many tribute acts doing it note for note - you just can't beat the original sometime.

Cocker's 'Little help from my friends' is far better than the original.
The Georgia Satellites version of 'Don't pass me by' blows Ringo's to bits.

I do like Cockers version, not better, just different - better than wet wet wets. I do like some revamped 60s stuff.

But what about covers that the Beatles did? "Money" is better than the original, so is "Twist and Shout". "Youve really got a hold on me" is better by Smokey Robinson though.

"A little help from my friends" Joe Cocker - Yes its OK and I know the Beatles themselves loved the version. But again, I prefer the original.

Yes, fancy not realising that practically every cover version the Beatles did is better than the original. Even Chuck Berry's Memphis Tennessee which they did for the decca auditions on new years day 62.

Lennons own music as an artist I find boring as I do McCartneys/Wings. I do like "Merry Christmas war is over" and perhaps "Woman" and "Starting Over". The rest is pretty empty for me.

George Harrisons stuff was far more interesting in my opinion.
