Default The Wirral Way Wirral Country Park - A Cycle Along..................

    Afternoon all.

Have just spent the morning cycling along The Wirral Way with my Bro-In Law.

We began our journey from our base in Garston, along the waterfront, hopped on a train at James Street to West Kirby and we carried on. Finished at Hooton, then the train back to Hamilton Sq, where we enjoyed a Ferry Cruise across, then cycled back into Garston!

Hope u like the pics, it was excellent

    From Wikipedia:

The Wirral Country Park is a country park on the Wirral Peninsula, England, lying both in the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral and the county of Cheshire. It was the first designated country park in Britain, opening in 1973.

The park is based around the Wirral Way (Ashton Park to Hadlow Road Station) which follows the track bed of part of the former Birkenhead Railway route from West Kirby to Hooton. The old line, which closed in 1962, follows the estuary of the River Dee for 7 miles (11 km) between West Kirby and Parkgate, then heads across the south of the Wirral to Hooton.

There are two visitor centres along the Wirral Way; near the site of Thurstaston railway station at Thurstaston and at the preserved Hadlow Road railway station in Willaston.

Lovely pics Kev and you can't beat cycling. We used to go to the Wirral Country Park quite often and had many a nice day there with our children although we went by car. We also enjoyed walking around the marina at West Kirby and going to the Cottage Loaf pub which is not very far away on the main road at Thurstaston. Lovely memories!

Its a lovely area. Rode a good way down it last year and i stay at the Caravan site regularly that is on top of the Cliffs at Thurstaston. Such a shame there was a violent murder along there in the 70s.
