Thumbs down The Odeon, London Road

I was driving up London Rd this evening, and saw that they are tearing down the Odeon.

They've started at the back, working towards the front. Perhaps they're hoping nobody will notice!

Wouldn't that be a listed building?

What are the plans for the place?

Surely not more unsellable apartments with no parking!?!?!

I'll have to get a pic tomorrow before it's all gone!

Went past earlier today.............Very sad to see this building being demolished.
And we don't need any more 'apartments'!!
There are some on Moss Street they can't seem to sell and I see we have more Student accommodation facing TJs.

Ah, the Odeon! I believe it had Liverpool's first press show, at any rate for many years, back in 1969 (for Funny Girl). The manager, my old friend George Cranfield, arranged it and began a Liverpool trend. Other memories: queuing around the block for the first Liverpool showing of A Hard Day's Night; seeing Hitchcock's The Birds in the Odeon when it had a single huge auditorium, and hearing a murmur of apprehension pass through the entire audience when Tippi Hedren turns and sees the school playground.

Strange that this posting appeared immediately but my one about the Britannia chain on the Adelphi thread is stuck in moderation! I suggested folk should look up Britannia hotels on Tripadvisor.
