    Default Where is this?

Not a quiz, as I haven't a clue either. Taken on 9th February 1905, it is a road described on the nameplate as Alcocks Buildings which ran between Morely Street and Kearsley Street. As you can see, the purpose of the photograph was to record the height of the building which is also on three more which go with it.

Is it George. I have a 1908 A-Z and none of those 3 streets mentioned are on it?

George is right Ged...both streets are still there ...I think Morley St is where Everton Valley post office is & Kersley Street is where the Phoenix pub is

I'll have a look later if its still unsolved...

These directorys are the original old red things like telephone books but thicker..
full of advertisements etc from the period...I'm sure most here know what I mean..

They are for sale... PM me if you are interested..

Kearsley St ran down to the end of Foley St with the Phoenix pub on the corner, with Morley St the next street running to the same point there was a small lane where the pic might have been taken, before Smith St began.

Well done, I will be putting more from this area on my site. It's a peculiar name for a street and here it is viewed from the opposite end. Without seeing a map further North than what I have, I don't know what the large building might be.

I think we know where it is now George ,I think we are trying to find what the building with the chimney is. There was a rubbish destructer in the area. which might explain the chimney

Thanks all. That photo Mandy is taken from Walton Road, looking down Furness St. The glass roof building just under the chimney is Wessy Road baths, the chimney possibly belongs to the wash house. The chimney on the Alcocks Buildings pic seems to be on a much taller building of about 6 storeys. It could be in this direction though so will get looking.

Its not,Ged...because the chimney belongs to the upright building in your own pic ie its not the same chimney.

The first pic was taken from Morley St., looking north towards Kearsley St. The 2nd pic was taken from the Morley St. end, further down the alley, looking NW towards the chimney belonging to the Phoenix Brewery. The Post Office was built on the site of Alcocks Buildings.
