    Wasn't there an earlier post that said it was a fire beacon that was used to distract German bombers from the Merseyside area?

    They would light fires and make it look like something important was there to attract the rest of the bombers.

    Yes... thanks for the memory jog - isn't it called Jubilee Tower?....

    UPDATE -

    Even wiki calls it Jubilee tower.
