I'm sure it was May Day when we did this.
Each street would dress up the 'coal wagon' or similar lorry and parade through Garston hoping to be the best there is.
Being only five years old I never got to travel on the flat bed truck but I remember trying hard to climb up on to the deck of the truck.
The colours, - as I remember - were fantastically vivid, each truck decked out in competition with the rest. It was a magical time and gave us kids memories which would stick with us for the rest of our lives.
