George, you must be psychic ! Only last night I was looking at a picture of one of these things !

I'm reading Underground Liverpool by Jim Moore, and read about the sewers underground. Under a picture of one these pipe thingies it says, Venting is a minor problem today, as most houses have a sewer venting system with a soil pipe projecting above the eaves of the roof. There are, however, a few sewer vents still around.

This book is well worth a read, it's fascinating and covers all aspects of what's underground in Liverpool - streams, wells, Willamson's tunnels, sewer systems, etc. going right back through history.

    here's a thread - http://www.yoliverpool.com/forum/sho...ound-Liverpool

This is probably what it is,because before Deysbrook was habital land except for a dozen old house on the corner of Deysbook Lane, this was Lord Derbys Estate and The river Alt and Deys brook ran through it like a rabbit warren and hence where it got its name when the old cantril farm started popping up.

There are quite a few of these Sewer Pipes dotted about, notably in Croxteth and on the dock road.
