When I dream
I dream not of men in white attire
nor of smoke from crackling fire
of apples bitten but not chewed
of spits and bits stirred and stewed
I dream of truffles
and of snuffles
of summers long
and odours strong
of warm wet hollows
of gleeful wallows
When I dream
the swill is cream
for when I'm dosey
all is rosey
but when I awaken
all is back and streaky bacon

Plaque, Robin Hood's Stone, Booker Avenue, Allerton, Liverpool
A scan of a print of a photo I took in the 1970's on a visit back to the 'Pool. The orange bits are damage to the color print and are not on the plaque itself. Mea culpa.

Remember that well! Chris, wonder if it's still there? Wife and I were married at the Prespyterian Church cnr Booker Ave/Mather Ave back in 1956, and I believe that church has now been demolished!! and what of the Police Riding School, has that gone too?
Hi Norm
The plaque to the stone was missing for a long while but was returned. As far as I know the plaque is still there now... but perhaps a local can tell us. Not sure I knew that the church were you were married was demolished. Do you remember that there was a synagogue catercorner across Mather Avenue. I do remember the church for being a dark brick rather ominous sort of place. One time when I was a toddler living on Aigburth Hall Avenue I ran away from home and got as far as the church. I was returned back home by a policeman!
My uncle, actually my maternal grandad's brother, the music hall comedian Billy Matchett, lived with his family at 165 Booker Avenue, in a semi-detached that he called "Vaudevilla." One of the family stories is that my grandmother was a member of Allerton Golf Club (she would go on to become captain of the ladies' team) and would cycle wobbly up Booker Avenue, and Uncle Bill would shout at her to put her off. The other family story is that he used to shout at the paperboy who was one Paul McCartney for climbing over the fence dividing his property from next door. The McCartneys' council house was just round the corner along Mather Avenue on Forthlin Road, now unbelievably a National Trust Property.
I can't speak to whether the police training college on Mather Avenue is still there or not and we might have to rely on expert current local opinion on that.
All the best
Chris

Not everyones cup of tea HDR or Tonemapping, but I kind of liked how crisp this one turned out.
Thanks Chris! Yes knew the Synagog , it was a bit further up Mather Ave, from the church, which was, as you say, built of a dark red brick construction. My wifes family lived in Ravenna Rd, off Heath Rd (golf club side) and just after we married we lived with sister-in-law in Haydean Rd, at end of Forthlin rd. So long ago!! but still well remembered! Cheers
