If ones nose did not ignore ones own scent we could smell little else, hence why it is a 'friend' who must whisper...BO

We always had the tin bath out on Saturday night so the we could be fragrant for Sunday and our visits to our paternal ,and maternal ,grandparents. Sunday morning would find us in best clothes, redeemed from the pawnshop on Saturday afternoon, we smelled of mothballs and DDT. The working class deodorant.
The only deodorant that I saw in the 50's was a product called Odo Ro No. Never knew what it smelled like. When I was at sea we showered daily, sometimes twice daily. I did'nt start using deodorants or aftershave until the 60's.When I worked ashore in the 70's I became aware of the once a week bathers in the workshop, their armpits were rank by the time Friday came round. Hygiene has come a long way in the last 40 years and we all smell the better for it
ODOR-O-NO came out in the twenties. It didn't small of much but it was advertised as lasting 7 days.

I just wear perfume every day for my own pleasure. Of course, it goes without saying that I attend to my ablutions daily .. but if I was stranded somewhere without water I wouldn't niff !

    I'll be your best friend.
    Perhaps you can't smell.

My odorous memories of the 1960's start with Eau de Cologne mixed with sweaty socks. As the 60's ended the smell of patchouli oil covered a multitude of sins. Could get very heavy, man.

In 12 Violet Street where we lived it was three stories high.

Every Saturday night my Dad would boil up big pans of water go two stories up and fill the the bath.

Everyone took turns, the youngest last.

Wonder how many peed in the bath ?
    David ( davemed ).

Every day is a new day. So, enjoy it.
