A memorial to the families of a close-knit Liverpool community who lost their
lives in World War II air raid. Up to 200 people were killed when a bomb
dropped on a shelter in the Gardens on the night of December 20, 1940.
A tram was passing Blackstock Gardens when the air raid siren went off. Many passengers were ushered off the tram and led into the air raid shelter. As a result, the shelter was full, and a number of local residents were turned away.
