Default The Beatles.. places they'd remember

In October 2010 my friend Bill Harry >> Mersey Beat.. The Bill Harry Interview arranged for an exhibition of my John Lennon Liverpool related photographs to be shown during the John Lennon season that was held in Liverpool in remembrance of 2 special Lennon anniversarys in the same year, Johns 70th Birthday and the 30th anniversary of his death..

Due to reasons beyond my control the exhibition was cancelled. the people who were supposed to show the exhibition still have around 100 of my photographs and say they will show the exhibition exclusively of my photographs some time in 2011...if it comes off, great...if it does'nt, no big deal.

Meantime...I'll post a few Liverpool Beatles related photographs on here...

    Thanks...

    Gerard.

I'm sorry about showing only a small shot of this house...
I dont want to be the one responsible for this house being exposed to the world...

This is the only house John Lennon owned in Liverpool..
it is the last house Lennon slept in in Liverpool..with Yoko Ono...
there is a story related to this house that would shock Beatles fans..it would shock the world...but its not for me to say on here....

You can search the internet all day and you wont find a photograph of this house..
You will not see this house on any Beatles tour..

Biolettis barber shop as mentioned in Penny Lane..
the chairs on the left is where you sat originally to get your hair cut..

there was a little enclosed booth to the left if you wanted your hair cutting quick.
None of The Beatles ever used that booth..
the gas fire on the right is where they would sit and wait their turn..

    This is 1 Blomfield Rd..
This was John Lennons Mum Julias house..
it is the house John was in on the night his mum was run over and killed by drunken off duty police officer Clague...
John would have got the news at the front door at the bottom of the stairs in the photo.

And you are looking at a very rare photograph of the bathroom that John Lennon, Paul McCartney and the Quarry Men would all cram into because they liked the acoustics made in the bathroom..

From the best collection of Liverpool Beatles related photographs anywhere..
which I'm very proud to say I took, and I own..

This photo shows the stairs and entrance to John Lennons art college on Hope Street..
the door centre pics leads to what was the basement canteen..
where Lennon, Stu Sutcliffe, Bill Harry etc would put on student bashes..
this stairway would have been the way in and out for all the gear..
unless they used the back entry etrance from Mount Street that leads through the courtyard area
between the art college and Paul McCartneys Liverpool Institute buildings...
I've plenty of pics... and videos I made all around this college and courtyard area...

    ....July/ August 2010...

I was approached by the people who put on the Lennon Remembered show at The Royal Court Theatre Liverpool..
they wanted to use my Lennon related pics as stage backdrops for the show..
the above shot would have been used in scenes relating to the art college...

The coverage and press my pics would have got from this would have been very nice..
I was very flattered by this offer... but I declined..

So why do you keep playing so hard to get? I keep waiting for the punchline - but it never comes!... Some of us here must be waiting with bated breath... Or maybe they've all gone to find out about Rebecca Ferguson?! Such irresistible inducements!

I spent many times in that art college canteen, and also the other rooms. When I was at art college I was in the graphics dept in Hope Place, but we would go into the main Hope st building for other lectures and to use the canteen.

None of us thought to take any photies of where John Lennon sat.

I got pics in what was Lennons art studio before it was converted to a nice plush office..

and in the lecture theatre on the spot where he always sat and scratched his name on the bench thingy he sat at..

Quarry bank school looks nice inside.

Part of the art college I was talking about -in Hope Place - is the former Jewish school ( I think I'm correct in saying ) -- anyway, I think it has now been converted into apartments.

Its now the Rex Makin building Lind..
I knew that one very well as well when it was an art department....very well indeed !

The bulding at the top on Hope Street ?...The Hahneman Building..?
John Lennons old art college reports etc were kept in a filing cabinet on the top floor in there..
    the lot soon went missing...

    for the record...

John Moores has a school report that was John Lennons from his Hope Street days..
a certain person offered them a paltry sum for it...JM refused..

You wont find any of the above in any book...or anywhere on the Internet.

    That brings back memories too...

IIRC Pobjoy's office was just on the left.... along with rumours of metal rings in the wall that used to hold chained slaves.

I think that was a bad rumour - but it kept us students alert and not wanting a visit to the office...

I Googled to find a pic and came up with this -
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/10541353@N00/1262413728/

The graphics students where on the top floor. Textiles in the middle, and general painting on the ground floor. The well known artist Sam Walsh had a studio/lecture room on the ground floor.

    Happy days

    It's a very nice building.

I owe you, Gerard, mate. And here is one of me that you took when you took Donna and myself to Quarry Bank in 2007. . . .

Meanwhile, I was able to find out about the motto in the stained glass window. "Be just and fear not" is a quote from one of Shakespeare's lesser known plays, Henry VIII (my pic this time!):

    Be just, and fear not:
Let all the ends thou aim’st at be thy country’s,
    Thy God’s, and truth’s; then if thou fall’st, . . .
    Thou fall’st a blessed martyr!

I'm assuming this is the house that John bought for Julia and her sister that never actually ended up with them...?

The full story's in her excellent book "Imagine This" for those interested.
