It's great to see the Kensington Picturedrome on it.
With all the publicity being given to the Bedford cinema in Walton, it goes unnoticed that the Kenny probably opened two days before the Bedford, and was probably the first purpose-built cinema in Liverpool.
The Kensington opened by invitation only on 24 December 1910 and to the public on the 26th.
The opening day of the Bedford isn't known, but they were both licensed at the same time.

I see my photo of the Casino cinema and Ice Rink is there, but I can't remember you asking for permission!

Steve, excellent piece, you have stated that Edge Hill was the first passenger railway station in the world, wasn't that Crown Street?

    Hi Steve

Unless I am misreading the caption or you are alluding to something I don't know about, shouldn't it be "Stephenson's Rocket" not "Stephen's Rocket"?

Chris, it seems full of mistakes, and photos used without permission.

Thanks Howie. The ward boundaries for Kensington and Fairfield are interesting. I see that the Kensington fields area is not in the ward. I wonder why.

Can I have permission then? My son passed me the photo so I wasnt sure where it came from... gotta blame someone

The text hadnt been proof read well spotted, although maybe Stephen's Rocket was a Freudian allusion to my large knob...... didnt know Crown Street was first so I'll amend that (I think edge hill had the first waiting room in the world though doesnt sound as good though)

Greater Kensington includes wavertree road edgehill basically all the L7 area (new deal area) but omits all the L6 streets which are generally regarded as kensington, I live 6 inches outside of "Kensington"......but in kensington....

Kenny Fields is part of Central Ward and wavertree road end is Picton ward so kensington has 9 councillors covering the area. two more and we can have a footbal team, "Kensington United" maybe not.

The Casino Cinema (later Top Rank Bingo) & Silver Blades Ice Rink were not in Kensington. They were both in Prescot Road, in the district of Fairfield. The Kensington thoroughfare and District both ended at Shiel Road. I once worked for Rank at the Casino.

    Yes. See phillipsacetates.com:

"Phillips Sound Recording Services, the popular studio in Liverpool where in 1958 the Quarrymen, who became the Beatles, made their first ever record: a 78rpm ten inch acetate disc with their version of Buddy Holly's ?That?ll Be The Day? on the 'A' side and Paul McCartney and George Harrison?s first composition, ?In Spite Of All The Danger? on the 'B' side. Both of these recordings appeared on the ?Beatles Anthology 1? album in 1995."
