Notice the upright timber supports keeping the landings up in the later pic,these were put in after a mother and child were injured when the landing collapsed being supported by only wrought iron angles
The wooden supports were made of greenheart wood so when we youngsters slid down them instead of using the stairs,we would sometimes get a splinter which would require a visit to Stanley Hospital for an injection.
