    Arrow Former Ashworth Hospital

forgot i had this one so thought id post it

Ashworth Hospital is a high security psychiatric hospital at Maghull in the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton in Merseyside, England.

Ashworth is one of only three high-security specialist psychiatric hospitals in England and Wales, along with Rampton and Broadmoor, that exist to work with people who require treatment due to their "dangerous, violent or criminal propensities". Ashworth was formed from the merger of the old Moss Side Hospital (originally a learning-disability unit once used for the treatment of "shell shock" in World War I) and the vastly more modern and considerably more appropriate Park Lane Hospital, opened as a Broadmoor overspill unit in the early 1970s.

The hospital has had a mixed history and has been the subject of two major public inquiries: Blom-Cooper in 1992 and Fallon in 1998. It currently houses some 275 male patients.

The old East site of the hospital has been leased to Her Majesty's Prison Service, and is now the location of HMP Kennet.

this was explored back in july 2009 with a few others and to be honest the pics are crap i didnt have a tripod and was just getting into photography at the time so the best i could do was these

this site has now been demoed as far as im aware

Very early start to the day explored most of the male block and pathological blocks

Excellent pic's Georgie, though these places always have an air of spookiness about them, especially pic'2! That "control and restraint" poster is interesting,as it states the perfectly obvious, you would think!?!

    Fascinating georgie

Sorry, but I had images of both One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest and The Shining going through my head as I was viewing these. Very disturbing.

I played on that football pitch in the 60`s for a Jacobs Biscuits side against the inmates, unfortunately the game was abandoned when their goalkeeper had a fit.

The pitch is now no longer. It was being used until last year.

There is/was a lake too, where HMP staff could fish. The first time I ever saw a fish being caught was there, and that was only 2 years ago. I was amazed by the size of it. (Not being interested in fishing I had nothing to compare it to).
The area then reminded me of something from The Avengers, a village with no people, secret goings on there.
