Default The History of Childwall (56k? haha)

Well on the hottest day of the year so far, Jona decided to get some new tyres for his bike, don his sunglasses and with his new camera in tow, head up to Childwall Church and surrounding area's to take some zoomed shots of things I've never been able to see up close. The pictures on here are taken down in resolution and are still stunning but the ones I have on the PC are the original resolution and I am SO impressed!! (2816x2112 at 6mp)

So, grab a beer, and let me take you on a walkthrough of my local area!

Great pics Jona, we visited the church last time we were over there, my wife was very impressed.

Cheers all! It was worth it on a nice hot day - if I'd had a lock for my bike, i'd still be in the Abbey and there'd be no pics online

Nice photos Jona. A couple of minor corrections. The "bone room" was actually the hearse house. There used to be a bone room next to the old tower.

Also the Saxon stones will of course predate the 13th C
Ah didn't explain myself too well on that one. It is a saxon stone (from the design) but it was put in place in the 13th century!

As for the Bone Room - it has been used as both a bone room and the hearse house. The large double doors on the front were opened and the hearse would drive straight in to outbuilding to unload the body. However both with this current hearse house and the one that was to the left of the tower (demolished in 1810), it was still used as a bone room when they decided to take up all of the internal graves in the church and stored the bones in there.

There's a bit of info and other pics at my website:

You don't need satellite in the Abbey - it's got the largest beer garden in Liverpool and serves cracking ale
