    Red face Litherland

I am a student at the University of Central Lancashire, and I am currently undertaking a research project surrounding Litherland. Having lived in Litherland for 21 years, I know the area pretty well. However, I know very little or nothing of it's history. If anyone has any information, stories regarding the area or old images of any part of Litherland, I would be very grateful.

This site is good too if you haven't seen it already:

Being in Sefton, districts like this, Ford and Netherton, do tend to be forgotten I feel.

Bootle, Seaforth and Litherland are all closer to the docks, and Liverpool's reason for being, than all those really "outlying" districts. So there!

It's shocking to think this can just happen on the street in an area where I know people and used to drink.

Litherland to me brings back memories of the sausage factory, the lift bridge over over the canal, tram rides to the canal learning to swim because we thought the water was cleaner than in Kirkdale.
...Spent a few years travelling from Kirkby to Litherland camera club.
Then many more years playing bowls at various bowls clubs and park greens in the area.

A model of the lift bridge on display at an exhibition in Waterloo last summer. The canalside house is still there.
