    Default Balliol House

Though not exactly a landmark, many will have passed by Balliol house,on the corner of Balliol/Stanley rd,and now it's to be demolished! The plans for a replacement development have been knocked back,so it looks like another car-boot site, for the foreseable future!!

But while one building goes down....another goes up! A little further up Balliol,on the corner of University rd,there was a derelict house, for many years! This has now gone, and been replaced by this building, but I dont know what it's for/is! (I've just looked at the boards, and it's part of the "Heartlands" scheme,so I'd guess it's flat's/apartments!)

Balliol house is an eyesore but it is silly knocking it down when it's not getting replaced. I'm sure that other building has looked in that state for a good month, so not sure if building work has stopped

Balli house is a health risk, thats why they're pulling it down, its gonna be a tight strip down and they cannot use explosives or demolition machinery,it has to be taken down piece by piece hence why its costing 1.3mil....why is it costing 1.3mil?...because its lining is Asbestos based.

Well done Steve for recording what's about to be demolished. As you say a regular everyday landmark today but soon to be just another piece of history.

Good job Steve, well worth documenting...despite it being not as much loved as other buildings it was part of people's lives for some decades.

Took these, as I went past today! Doesn't look like they've got very far in 6 months, but I suppose it's the asbestos slowing things down!
