    Default SS Lormont

    Hi all
    Hope you can help?
I am kind of new here, I was wondering! if any one had any info on the SS Lormont.
I have a picture, and her makeup.....How do i find crew lists etc?
Hubbys Grandfather was the Boswain on and around 1935, when he left, he became a dock gate man....are there any records for them? (untill he died 1955)
    Any info would be great.
    Regards
    Tigra

    Hi Tigra,

Try the `British Merchant Navy` web site, they can usually find information like that. they can direct you to KEW in London where they may have records. I think the reords site is
    [url]http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

On the top of the "British Merchant Navy" Is a thread called `CREW LISTS` and there is a form there to fill in, then they can help you.
    Good Luck.

Apparently there were three "Lormonts" - make sure you get the right one...

I had a g.grandad who was one in the 1860s and I got lots of info from records in the Maritime Museum at Albert Dock. They have a register of officers where my grandad was in 1863 and after 1870 to 1923 there is a list of weekly servants which covered dockgatemen then. So they may have records for your dates. they may be able to tell you on the phone or by email.
Incidentally I was on the Bordeaux run with Moss Hutchison in the 50s so passed Lormont all the time. Mosses had the Crane, Redstart and Corncrake and the other boats were still GSNC.
