Default Original Edge Hill Railway Station

According to Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edge_Hill_railway_station the remains of the original Edge Hill station are still extant, but not open to the public. Anybody have any pictures? I've visited the station many times but hadn't realised that it is not the original, first station.

    Hello Eric

I don't know what is still there but there was discussion of Edge Hill Station in the following old thread. Unfortunately the photos posted in the first post in the thread are no longer showing up but maybe someone can retrieve them or repost them:

Thanks for that Chris, but the thread you indicate is dealing with the active station and that is the one that I am already familiar with. I'm wondering about the Wiki article's mention of an earlier station, which I was unaware of. I'm wondering if the article is incorrect? Or do some remains of an earlier Edge Hill station remain? And if so, whereabouts?

Perhaps this will help... I had read about the last part of the trip being gravity powered...

So, if it was Crown St., it must be near here, down in the cutting...

Thanks, that confirms that the current station is the second station. I've just discovered further confirmation of this via another thread called : Moorish Arch Edge Hill Liverpool Not So Beautiful and Ornate Anymore.

On same lines (ish!) i visited the williamson's tunnels a couple of weeks back and was totally immersed (excuse the pun!) in it all. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ++++ (as ebay would say)!

Thanks to other threads, have located the original Edge Hill station and learnt a lot of local railway history at the same time!

Visited Williamson Tunnels myself a short time ago. Bit disappointed that there wasn't more tunnel to explore.
