Thread: Film Crew Moving in around Stanley Dock - 09/10

Default Film Crew Moving in around Stanley Dock - 09/10

Driving along Regent Road and over the newly restored lift bridge on Friday there appeared to be a film crew moving in to the north side of Stanley Dock.

Road signs suggested that the road would be closed in this area for several days from September 20.

Also noted some rough "false" wooden gates had been fitted across the entrance to Clarence Dry Docks. The usual little film unit signs have started sprouting on lamp posts.

Any idea what is going on?

Some pic's of my visit to the bascule bridge, today, one of many heritage sites open over the next week! The guy showing us round, showed us the plans "Peel" have for the area, which look great,if they come off!
He said that, though there were no plans to operate the bridge in the foreseeable future,as there was no practical need, there was a possibility to restore it to working order,as an example of it's type! (That fire doesn't look very warm!!)

Thanks for sharing those pictures of the engine room of the restored bridge.

The sad thing is the Egerton Bridge at Morpeth Dock Birkenhead was fully restored to working order in the early 1990s aroudn the time the Birkenhead Tramway was constructed.

I remember viewing it when it was open - unfortunately Wirral Council just allowed it to become derelict again.

By the way the proper name for these rolling lift bridges is a Scherzer Rolling Lift Bridge.

When I drove down there today to visit the bridge, and saw the panelling attached to the gates!I asked a workman(?) what was going on,and he said "Peel" were just tidying up the place...odd tidying,I thought!
I went past one of the entrance pillars, right next to the bridge, and then thought, where did that come from, especially as it went over the edge of the pavement, and appeared to be supported with bits of plywood??? On closer inspection,it turned out to be an imitation, and I guess,to be used someway,in the film being made!

Is it related to this tidying up you pictured a few days ago?

It seems to be a copy of the same entrance pillar.

Very interesting obviously something is going on.

Must keep an eye on the Public Notices in the Daily Post that usually contains details of road closures for filming etc. Something must appear soon if the road is to be closed from 20/09 for several days.

I must take a wander down there for a closer look myself this week.

timber covers the dock gates to keep prying eyes out

This might show why Peel were willing to fix up the bridge too... So they can make some money from it
