    Default Garston Fresh Water Spring

My nans old house was subsiding and just before she passed away, we were told that the reason was because the house (Argyle Road) was built upon a fresh water spring that runs even now through Garston, through the Village and out somewhere Under The Bridge. The water reputed to be clear as crystal.

Has anyone got information on this?

Not come across this one Kev. Springs can of course come out of the ground in unexpected places. Certainly there is a stream running under Church Rd. It is culveted now but once powered the old Garston Mill sited opposite St Michael's Church. If you look at the topography of the area, you will realise that St Mary's Rd and Speke Rd are built on the slopes of a small valley formed by this stream. The Garston Docks were built where the stream enters the River Mersey. This was the original site of the late 18th C Garston Sulphuric Acid works.

That's helpful, thanks . Can the stream still be seen where it enters the Mersey?

No I don't think so. It's probably been diverted into the main surface water system. It was I understand uncovered during excavation work for the then new Garston bypass.
