    Default Queensway Tunnel 1934

Queensway Tunnel, 30 July 1934.Queensway Tunnel ‘Nerve Centre’ 26 May 1934Walking up Manchester Street today, I was reminded about how much of Liverpool we take for granted. Liverpool is full of tourists – most here for the Mathew Street Festival but I wondered how many would stop to admire the Mersey Tunnel, once regarded as [...]

Thanks Dazza - the site is fine but the link does not appear to be working.

Thanks Colin, great images once again. I notice the original H.Rowse design had a much lower balustrade crowning the tunnel in the image. Also the bronze statues commemorating both the King and Queen have still yet to be installed.

It's a pity they [council, I assume] removed the taller ornaments flanking the tunnel and the main central arrangement.

Got to love those early 30's cars though...classics, them all.

Good picture of the era, Colin and the name of Frank Hessy on the gable in Manchester Street, is relative to this weekend's concert. Most of the Merseybeat groups bought their musical instruments from Hessy's.
