Thread: Did ANY of the old 'courts' survive?

It surprises me that there is not even one example left - I almost refuse to believe it.

That little house on Hockenhall Alley off Dale Street? Was that not once a type of dwelling house or was it commercial premises? It looks to me like a court type house.

It was a street of dwellings. Pics on my site below with people standing outside these houses when residential.

I too am very surprised at the fact no courts survived because you could argue that they are as much part of this city's fabric as any dock or warehouse that did to survive. It was a way of life for some people for over a hundred years.
The last court was demolished I believe in 1964. There was a big effort to get rid of them in early 20th century, hence the tenements. Manily built by slave shippers after he trade was abolished.

A few paved streets still survive, but these are no courts, which tended to be three high with a basement dwellings.
