    Default Comos

Ox blood comos, two tone pants, blazer, 5 park drive, and a ride around Sefton Park on my "Lammy" with my Judy on the back, I was in cloud nine. Head home to play some Tamla Motown on the Dansette. Roll on 1970. Simple pleasures, no drugs or drink, beat that kids of today.

    Jes` I feel old.

I remember the como shoes but I always wore Nebraska shoes which I bought
from the Stirling Shoe Company in Lime St. This is me taken by the missus
in Stanley Park wearing them and my casual gear from Brass & Jackson the
tailors on Norton St. I think the year was 1959. Evertons old floodlights can be seen in the background.

    Default Deeper red

We put ox blood polish on them and shined them up. That went well with two tone strides they tended to turn up on the instep, that produced creases in the leather but gave them a used look. They were superseded by Royals that were more expensive and had more quality about them. Royals were brouges and hard to get hold of.

I've been after a pair of comos for years - the kosher ones were from Saxone (about £4). The guy at Solely's in Cavern Walks tracked down the design from Italy in order to get some made but it came to nothing (probably too expensive for a short run). Great shame - I'd have bought several pairs.
I did buy a pair of Allen Edmonds (Leeds style) from him which are very similar to the Loakes in your photo i.e. not as casual as the como.
He still has them in stock but they are around £200.
Do I spy a pair of Trickers in the corner?
I have a pair of them but they are a bit tough on the old feet nowadays.
Funny how Mod clobber stands the test of time when you wouldn't be seen dead in half the stuff you bought in the 70s.

Comos are back, I have been in touch with the company that used to make them FRANK WHITE they are making comos again but only in suede. I have asked them if they are going to be making them in oxblood leather, but they said not at the moment. But I reckon if enough people e mail them and show interest they might just do so. So come on everyone get in touch with them and we might one day be able to slip on a pair once more .
