    Default A second unnamed pub

Can anyone identify this pub please 253 Regent Street Kirkdale Liverpool in the 1860's. Publican was a Joseph Mulvey. This one is not mine but a memberof another forum is asking about it.
    Many thanks

According to Kelly's Directory of 1860 253 Regent Street didn't exist, the street numbers end at less than 80, although it might have expanded later on. I can't find any trace of Joseph Mulvey as a publican also.
    Best wishes,
    Chas

    the beer is all gratis
you can smoke in the snug
    the barmaid is bra-less
and you may spit on the rug

    the door's never locked
    and the fire's real coal
    the cellar's well stocked
and there's steak in a roll

    the old guys are hopeless
    at any bar game
    the ladies are guileless
in the pub with no name

The one time I drank in
    this heaven on earth
was a day I was gaspin'
    for all I was worth

    All there gave ovation
and were glad that I came
    how'd you ask for direction
to the pub with no name?

And the motto of this paradise
    was simply, "when in Rome"
I ask you to take my advice
there's no mystery, this pub is called Home.

    Thank you.

I take it as a general rule that all that one publishes on the internet is for public use. AS LONG AS such use is not for monetary gain.
If ever I quote from the work of others I would say so. The above were written by me, off the cuff, so to speak. Enjoy.

    P.S.

This is something I should do, but have not thus far got into the habit. Could you please add either (or both) Oudeis/Tom Austin to the copies you make. Thanks again.

I did wonder what the ladies would think of it all.

I am glad you could laugh.

Joking aside its really quite sad that so many of my ancestors pubs have closed their doors. They used to be the centre of social life the place to get the news and gossip with the lads ater work or to enjoy the feast when the welfare club money was shared they were the natural place t'old meetings and barneys to wet a babes head or say bye at a wake now not even the locals can name or place on a map soo many , too many of my ancient family pubs mayhap dearOudeis you could knock a few lines up on that theme for me?

I hear you trees. Any extra detail of your particular interest, would help.
I have thoughts that could be about a thousand odes, but have not yet begun, except this one.

    Some talk of Alexander
    And some of Hercules
    Of Hector and Lysander
And such great names as these

But of all the worlds great heroes
    There's none that can compare
With a tow, row, row, row, row, row
To the Pub that once stood here

[with thanks to 18th century traditional]

I am, as I say, on the case. I would rather meet your desires as much as possible, but each one I can dream up I will share. (whether you like it or not, tee-hee)
