Does anybody know how to trace references to family members in the Music Hall business from 1901 onwards?

I have 2 members of my family who were both music hall atristes and agents (depending on the year). They were both named FREDERICK FELLOWS, but on the 1901 census they were living at 67 Rokeby St (Everton) and going by the name POOLE.

I'm wondering if this was a stage name, but by 1908 they were back to Fellows on records. They then moved to 33 Rupert Hill by 1911.

There is one refernce to Fred Snr being a comedian, and family tales of dog performing. I'm all googled out and still hitting a brick wall.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

When I first started doing my family history (and I must admit my wife's family are much more interesting than mine) I joined a number of family history societies, but found I was buying fiches and CDs just to find one entry, and the family then moved on to another area. Its a pity there's no sort of Federal membership, so you can join one society (probably your local one so you can go to meetings) and then have access to all the others. If it was reciprocal it shouldn't cost that much more.

I agree with what your saying, I started my family history over 10 years ago and spent 100's joining Ancestry and Findmypast etc.

Most of the stuff I actually found is freely available nowadays through FreeBMD and local Church records online etc.

It can cost a fair bit.

They dont tell you on the subscription sites that unless you know what your doing then your wasting your time.

The Merseyside Genealogy and History forum is a good place to join if your just starting out. Good tips on there for research. Get to know a little before you subscribe.

    And take the Free trials.

My thanks to the above poster's! I too spent a fair amount on 'Find My Past.' and wasted most of it on 'searches'! just for the names and districts. Only one certain result achieved!

I had been looking for details of my Great Grandparents marriage details for years and years, and I was convinced because I couldn't find them that they must've been living 'over the brush'.

I discovered a brand new Liverpool site last week detailing Roman Catholic Marriages in Liverpool, and half heartedly typed there names in.

Boy I was gobsmacked when there details popped up!

I guess they only cared about the Catholic marriage, because they never went the CofE service (as all Catholics at the time had to do to make there marriage 'legal' in England), and thats why they are missing from official records.

A bit OT, what form of records do LRO use /
is it microfiche, 35mm film, 16mm film or what.
I know they have the record books, having spent hours looking at them

The Central Library will be closed for a couple of years: does this mean the Records Office will be inaccessible during that time, and if so, is there any alternative provided?
