Thread: Andrew Schofield stage play...

  1. #1

    Question Andrew Schofield stage play...

Can anyone please help me to remember a play in which Andrew Schofield starred in and that run in Liverpool Playhouse, Williamson Square, Liverpool, many, many years ago. Can't remember the name of the play, but do remember he sang an excellent cover version of The Crying Shames' superb hit, "Please Stay."
It's been bugging me for many years, as I really want to try to track down Schofield's version of this song which was recorded on a black 'floppy' 7" single that accompanied the play's programme. Unfortunately, this was lost to me yonks and yonks ago and I'd dearly love to be able to get another copy of it, if at all possible??
I recall going to see the play 3 times as Schofield was absolutely phenominal - proving that his previous role on TV as Franny Scully was not a one-off fluke.
If anyone can help - particularly in trying to get hold of the song by Andrew, then I would be eternally greatful.
BTW - have just ordered the excellent 'Scully' DVD from His Master's Voice store online for the pricely sum of £7.99 and can't wait for it to arrive any day now, along with the box set of 'Boys from The Black Stuff' from the same outlet and same price. Takes me back to my youth in the 'Pool!
    Cheers,

    alba

Thanks, Oudeis. But I'm 99.9% certain it wasn't Blood Brothers. The play was set around a Rock'n'Roll backdrop, if memory serves me right... I remember seeing Andrew singing "Please Stay" to a girl in a R'n'R skirt, but that's as far as memory serves me just now. I would remember if it was Blood Brothers because, at the time, Blood Brothers was running with Barbara Dickinson in it and it was a smash hit from the off.
    Cheers,

I've always hated Schofield - probably because I've hated the people he has played.
I guess that makes him a good actor.

Kevin, he's been really cool in the Royal Court plays I've seen him in. Always funny and engaging, well except when he was in Misery

    I guess I've only seen him playing a ****.

I do realise that may not be his true personality though!

Well you're right about one thing, Kevin, he is a very good actor. He must be number one on any casting director's list when local plays are being produced. Schoey is regularly nominated as a famous Liverpudlian on local radio.

In the Blood Brothers play, Andrew Schofield (now renamed as Drew by the luvvies) was the Narrator and delivered his script from the wings. He never sang in it.
