    Smile Scottie Road Area

Anyone got any memories from Scottie Rd from the late seventies right through to the millenium?? I`m a scouser, aged 39, called Terry, from the area, moved to Oxford 4 years ago, and just found this site last week. Very interesting story of how I managed to land in Oxford, but thats probably not for this thread.......

Hey, that's weird that is, if you didn't know it, it gives the impression of not being straight. I know it's a panoramic shot, just looks like it goes round the bend, like me

    Gilly,
I bet loads of Away supporters have memories of the bottom end of Scottie in the early 70s when they walked back to Limey, especially that hill This is no reflection on the Scottie community, as all the Red and Blue troublemakers came from the outlying housing estates.

Where Have All The Voters Gone ?

A Political History of Scotland Road

    ** New Project!**

Here at Scottie Press Online we are embarking upon a new research project. The project will be based upon the colourful political history of the Scotland Road area, and will address the question as to why voter apathy seems to grip this area especially hard in contemporary times.

We will start by researching three political heavyweights of the area T.P O'Connor , the only Irish Nationalist MP to sit in a constituency outside Ireland ( Liverpool Scotland 1885 - 1929 ) Locally born Davie Logan who succeeded O'Connor and sat till 1964. Bessie Braddock Liverpool Exchange 1945 - 69 . We are also interested in the un-written history of the area's political struggle.

Therefore we are asking for help from our readers to create this unique piece of social history. Everything and anything is welcomed, pictures, personal recollections, family anecdotes. These will help us to create an understanding of the past political forces that have led us to the present day.

Voting apathy seems to be gripping this area especially hard. In the last election for the European Parliament the number of people who voted in this area was around 10%. In the 2001 General Election Riverside turned in a low 34.1% (although again this area was much lower ). Why is this happening, can it be explained? In an attempt to address this problem we will look back to the past. Was it any different, and can we use anything we may learn in an effort to interest people, especially the young in politics at both a local and a national level?

Please keep referring to the projects tab to view our research as it happens!

Gilly, did you once mention the Radcliffe Estate?

From Freddy O'Connor's 'It all came tumbling down'

Some say, not before time for that estate though. How was it for you there, only a year wasn't it?

Interestingly a similarly designed estate still stands in Aigburth Vale and is in good condition.

Just showed me dad that pic of the Raddy and he reckons those particular blocks were on the edge of the estate at the Everton Road end, and the houses that made up the bulk of the estate were slighty different in design and a bit smaller. He's not 100% on that though.

There was a similar estate off Breck Road that lasted quite a bit longer than the raddy, and one in Croxteth just off the east lancs, which is still standing but waiting to be demolished.

Yes Terry. The one off Breck Road contained the Brunel pub within it.
