can't find you post for the huyton towers but my mum was a district nurse and used to have a few patients in them, i'm pretty sure they were called 'wingate towers " the ones opposite the bluebell
Hi Shoney. Wingate Towers on the Bluebell estate have gone now, but only in the last 4 years but the ones on the other side of Liverpool Road are still there, those 2 are just being renovated I think, Knowsley Heights - Woolfall Heath.
mum said the bluebell pub is gone now too, i remember going in there when i was 18 and there was sawdust on the floor in the public bar, not too sure but I think the manager was ??? barton, ( can't remember his 1st name) probably a relation of joeys, good bass house though
Yes, the Bluebell pub is no more too.
and the Hilly to i hear, also the eagle and child,..........is the bow and arrow and the oak tree still there
Yes, you're right on all counts. The Hillside where we played once has gone, the Eagle and Child quite some time ago - a McDonalds is there now.
The Bow and Arrow and Oak Tree still going strong.
Huyton Labour club ? had my boxing debut there at 15
The Oak is now a Wetherspoons in name but not in nature. Done this a while ago now but it never worked out as they wanted as you would expect. The Farmers arms also went (was by the Eagle on the opposite side). The Princess has gone just past the Bow. The Bow is still the Bow! Think the only old Bass house style Huyton pubs left are the Bow and the Quietman if you dont count the Oak now being Wetherspoons. (Is the Yewtree still open? Not been down there for ages)
Huyton labour is still going strong as far as I know

rose and crown and the huyton park? any news
Why were the big white 22 floor blocks like Corinth Tower demolished. I believe those at Shield Rd were crumbling so had to go. The others looked sound enough to me. My favourite was Entwistle Heights, not exactly pre-cast like Corinth Tower but a fine looking building.

They were all sold off to or at least put under the direction of HAT - Housing Action Trust in the 1980s. I don't know what the criteria was for demolishing most but saving some - there's 4 private blocks off Netherfield road now (2 called Freedom Heights, the other 2 called View 146 - these have a gymnasium)
It seems with proper security, they can prosper.
This was the panoramic view (here split into three) from the 11th floor of Sandside View, Warwick Street. I lived here for a while in the mid-70s.
