    And finally...

"Mill Place" from Shaw's Brow, c.1825. If you look carefully it says "Mill Place" on the side of the building. Originally posted by Kev on the following Windmill thread [see post#16] http://www.yoliverpool.com/forum/sho...ighlight=mills

The mill can be seen on the '1836 map' attached in the post above this one.

Ha, I was only kidding Mandy. No, that sounds great. I hope the extra material brings the story that little bit more closer for them. Strangly enough the cafe in the Walker sits pretty much over 'Mill Place', though with slightly better surroundings and about 12' feet higher than the original cobbled ground level.

Good luck Mandy, I'm sure you'll make the perfect tour guide tomorrow.

Ha smurfy, I knows me limitations, and there's more I don't know, than do know. That's why I'm cheap at half the price.

BTW, robbo posted a photo of herself the other day and I'd swear she's 90 if she's a day? I'd have to shout all the way around.

Ged, have you ever come across a photo of 'Christ Church' on Hunter Street?

Not a photo. The LRO only have a drawing and it's not like the one on the church site I put up earlier and in fact the painting No3 on your post No.8 show the bell tower like the drawing i've seen.

Thanks Ged, strange eh? I came across a picture of the church with the "bell tower" yesterday on Lancashire Online Parish site and was a bit puzzled by it - as the Herdman view shows a more modest dome. This is the same descrition you find in The Stranger to Liverpool. I have a 1820 edition and it says:

"CHRIST CHURCH. It is build of brick, ornamented with stone. It has no tower; but a light and well constructed dome, or cupola, rises from the north end..."

Yes, the dome pic is the same as the LRO (I assumed it held a bell but maybe not) The spire type structure on the Lancashire online Parish site is puzzling?

ps. The school was on Christian St and became St. Annes.

This is Christ Church school, attached to that church. It later became St. Annes attached to the church on St. Anne Street which gave it its name.
