    Default 1887 Baedeker Guide

Saw this on BBC4 last night. I don't know if its a good idea to post links to BBC iPlayer programmes as they expire after a while. This one is available until 17th June 2010. Touring Britain The Victorian Way

Cultural historian David Heathcote uses his favourite old 1887 Baedeker Guide to explore modern-day Britain, starting in Liverpool.

He visits the Cunard Building, Streatlam Tower (5 Princes Road) which was apparently the Bose Museum of Japanese Art. Also the Adelphi Hotel and a few other places before moving on to Llandudno.

I found this photo by Taffy on Yo of Streatlam Tower

Some interesting notes about the building in a For Sale brochure

The link is just below the photo.

Watched it, it was great when he went into the bowels of the Cunard building to see all the stuff concerning the 3rd class passengers that was still there

The 1887 Guide describes 1916 buildings?

    Must get a copy.

Sorry, I don't know if I'll get round to watching the programme.

Hi QS, I think the first ed. is 1887. I have an original 1901 [5th Edition] Great Britain, which features Liverpool over a number of pages including a city map.
