    Thumbs up W G Herdman Liverpool Art [Scenes & Historic Views]

    Please find attached a series of works by W G Herdman who painted many Liverpool scenes & historic views, sometimes copying existing Liverpool views.....

    All courtesy LRO.

    HPH077 - Chapel Street in 1798. The watercolour shows Fowler's Court in Chapel Street in 1798. The court has a thatched roof. Painted from an older scene no date



    HPH078 - Everton Village, Old Cottage Nr. Everton Road. 1856

    HPH079 - Old Cottage, Walton Road. Thatched cottage on NW side of Black Bull Lane, Walton Rd, Kirkdale. 1856

    HPH080 - Old Cottage, Kirkdale. Shows an old cottage with new (Victorian) houses and countryside in background. 1862

    HPH081 - Shaw Street. Shows Shaw Street in its prime from the corner of William Henry Street to Moss Street with St Augustine's Church and Liverpool College (I.e. the Collegiate). Ladies and gentlemen strolling on the street. 1859

    LCA021 - Kensington looking towards Prescot Street. 1859

    LCA023 - Tithebarn Street (seen from Moorfields). 1856

    LCA024 - Old Haymarket (i.e. entrance to Birkenhead Tunnel). 1858

    LCA026 - William Brown Street (North side). Shows site of the Walker Art Gallery. 1867

    LCA028 - Shaw's Brow (William Brown Street) from Byrom Street to Livesley Place. 1855

    LAW041 - Hurst Street warehouses. Massive warehouses were built to accommodate Liverpool's ever increasing trade cargo. What a shame they've gone no date

    LAW045 - Shops in Whitechapel. West side from Peter Street to Spitalfields. 1867

    LAW046 - J. Smith, Baker, Pall Mall and corner of Tithebarn Street. 1869

    LAW047 - London Road. South side from Hotham Street to St Vincent Street - looking east. Good for shops (hosiers, hatters, drapers, etc) 1870

    LAW048 - George's dock Gate from corner of Water Street. Shows warehouses of ship suppliers. 1867

    LAW049 - Brunswick Road from Greenside to Shaw Street. Shops (Stationers, Tobaccinist, Pawnbroker) and pub. 1869

    LAW050 - Marybone - W. Side from Stockdale St. to Miodghall St. Shops (Grocers, fishmonger) with windmill in background. 1869

    LAW051 - Mersey Street (West side from No. 18 southward). Notices for boarding house and 'ship bread baker' (also people, pub). 1859

    LAW052 - Exchange Alley. Exchange Alley looking from Exchange Street - west entrance. 'Gentlemen' in background - merchants? 1859

    LAW053 - Richmond Street (N. side showing S.E. corner of Williamson Sq with Houghton St.). Good view of pub with adverts outside. 1858

    Do you happen to have the dates for these?
    I'm guessing 1850s?

    I'm also trying to spot buildings that are still standing.
    Not many.
    The Collegiate.
    Queens Arms, Richmond Street.

    The park in Shaw Street didn't last long.

    Excellent series Kev.....even continuing themes from earlier threads [Houghton St].

    As a public sculpture series.....I think these views should be re-introduced into the city from the vantage point they were originally drawn/ painted.
