    Default Upper stanhope street

Ive been trying to get info on a building on upper stanhope street, its on the park road end facing the church. It looks similar to the merchant houses further down by cains. I payed a visit recently and it looks pretty much derelict but it was getting used in the 90s as rehearsal rooms, any pointers to an old photo or any info would be much appreciated....,great site by the way, cheers.

It's ok barizla. No need for apologies though I was trying to place it. I'll take a look in my Edwardian A-Z to see if it's named and take a look at it next time i'm down that way.

It's 18 Upper Stanhope Street (assuming I've got the right building).
Once rather grand, judging by the double-fronted appearance, and bigger than its neighbours (1906 OS map).
I don't know anything about its early life, but it has been extended at the rear (1950s map), and by the 1930s (Kellys) was a laundry.
Dexter laundry by the 1960s (Kellys).

Don't know what its been used for since though I note you say a rehearsals studio.

Thanks but credit to local, PhilipG

    ''Somebody asked about this building.
I was curious, so decided to investigate.
It was a laundry, even in 1894.
It's obviously much older than that, so I'll keep digging.''

Just been on Geds excellent site on the streets ahead section, theres a house almost identical to this one on Everton Road, sadly in decline also. Both fine houses in their day.

Aye, I know the one you mean. Would have been a fine Georgian residence at one time with brilliant views down over the city. Thanks for the comments.
