These are great...They'd make a great book!

" What Michael Jackson needs is a scouse mate"

Somebody I used to work with said this. He reckoned it would sort him out and bring him down to Earth.

I love this thread but it keeps making me cry. That and the Malibus. I dont realise how much I love my hometown until I read about it. I think Gerry Marsdens comments were simple and deeply felt and therefore probably more moving to me but it was wonderful to read. Sod Bernard Manning

Wink I wonder if it was rehearsed...

I was watching Roger McGough and Brian Patten at The Everyman for the anniversary of The Mersey Sound in 2007. As part of the Q&A they had to respond to this famous quote about the creative energy in the Liverpool poetry scene:

“Liverpool is at the present moment the centre of the consciousness
of the human universe” - Allen Ginsberg, 1965

I'm sure I misquote Roger McGough horribly, but he said something along the lines of "Ginsberg would have said that about anywhere that he was."

He said it quite easily, naturally and wittily... I wonder if he had that answer already up his sleeve.
