Just started, been doing some research on ancestery to find out
things about all those involved, ie balmer, connolly etc.
Strange that it happened in 1949 yet the deaths are listed for
Thomas and catterall as 1st qtr 1950

by this time he was retired

Yes he retired in November 1967, the day before his 65th birthday and became a director for Securicor. He died on 2nd May 1970 after collapsing at his fiance's house in Grangemount West Kirby and was dead on arrival at Arrowe Park.

How strange,that the man who was responible for Balmer's undoing and exposing him as a corrupt liar, the author of The Cameo Conspiracy, lived in Coltart Road, the street opposite Cairns Street!

Anyone remember, the title of the American book, which Chris George mentioned some time ago, about a man framed which was similar to the Cameo case?

I remember Charles Connolly telling me his daughter Tina was a Sister of a ward in hospital and he went to see her one day, When he walked into the ward in the first bed was Balmer, he said he turned white when he saw Charles.

Allthough Thomas and Catterall died in 1949 the deaths were not
registered until 2nd qtr 1950

Hi. There are certain similarities between this case and the A6 Murder case of 1961, not least of which are the alleged prison "confessions" made in the hospital wings of the respective prisons.

An extremely interesting connection between the two cases is that the prosecuting counsel at George Kelly's trial, William Gorman, was the judge who presided over the A6 Murder Trial at Bedford twelve years later.
