St Margaret's (briefly), Granby St then Alsop (started before it went comprehensive). I hated it too but, with hindsight, it was probably better than a lot.

    I went to:
Lidderdale Road (Smithdown Road) 1945 to 1947 nursery and ps. I remember the Jews being required to leave the hall for assembly.

Granby Street ps 1947 to 1949 Miss Scott was head mistress. I was caned for peeing in the grid in the play ground.

SFX Prep ( The Gables) Menlove Avenue. 1949 to 1951. I was severely abused physically and emotionally by Miss Horner aided and abetted by the Head Master Fr. McCann

St Clare's. Harington Road. 1951 to 1954 Mr Ratchford was head master Mr Costigan was a sadist.

Walton Technical School 1954 to 1958 Eddie Dunn was the head master. Mr Whally was inspiring. Mr Tyson was mentally retarded. I was caned for not having my cap on in the play ground.

John Hamilton Technical School 1958 to 1959

I, um, went to Farnworth Grammar School, near Bolton. But there is a Liverpool, or rather, Everton Link...

Its also the School that Alan Ball attended in his youth. The English teacher there, Mr Stevens, still remembered him. He used to live (his mother still did I believe) near to us, a few streets away by the New Bury area of Farnworth.

Another famous pupil was Kenneth 'They think its all over' Wolstenholme, who came from nearby Walkden. Now isn't that a coincidence?

Shamefully, the school became a victim of Thatchers fear of 'Elitism in the Working Class' mistake in 1983, and was closed, which had a profound effect on the rest of my education.

When I was in school back in the dark ages, every kid in the city was given a souvenier of the coronation. I still have mine and it has never been used.

Wouldn't part with it. My Sis has one from Edward V111 who was never crowned.

    So did this guy
    http://www.derektwigg.org.uk/sect1/[/QUOTE]

No he didn't. I went to school with Derek Twigg. He went to Our Ladys Junior school and Fisher Moore secondary modern in Widnes. At that time The Wade Deacon was a Grammar school and Derek Twigg never passed the 11 plus.

St Margarets L8 (Now call St Margarets of Antioch)

    St Anne's, Overbury Street

    St Agnes Secondary, L13

St Agnes School, Broadgreen Road, was built sometime in the 60s. It was knocked down in the early 80s I think.

St Margarets school is still there, just!

St Annes - still there, but with a "new" building (think the old one still there.
