little italy was mainly off byrom st
Gerard Gardens to Scotland Road was 5 minutes walk as Scottie begins at the end of Byrom st - ie the end of Addison St.
Little Italy though was generally the border of Christian St/Hunter St/Byrom St and Richmond Row which contained within it Gerard St, Bennett St, Baptist st and Circus st with many little streets running off them such as Whale st, Thurlow st, Downe st and Kilin st. This was all pre Gerard Gardens from the mid 1800s to 1935 with still quite a few Italian families remaining after the slum clearance programme.
Holy Cross up to the Kirkdale boundary was largely Catholic Irish. Great Homer St up across Netherfield Rd to St. Domingo Road was largely Protestant Irish.
