This is probably a dead easy question for most ppl on here. I was on the bus back to bootle from town today and just before the Wallasey tunnel entrance there's a white building with arched windows set back from the road. Looks like it's had it's top chopped off too. Was it a church ? if not then what was it ?

Ok it's not white but it's this building

It was a school,at one time, though I've no idea what it was called (Ged!!!)!If you go around the corner to the right,it still has "boy's entrance" over a blocked up doorway! I don't think that was it's last use though,as I can vaguely remember walking past it,in the late 60's,and there was a sign referring to civil defence?

In 1848 it was Bevington Bush School. The doorway and side entrance is shown both on the map and the Google Streetview photo. Ged may have some photo's of it on innercityliving?

Also, Bevington Bush Baths [on the corner of Paul Street] by 1906 had become "St. Saviour's Refuge."

Good stuff Dazza! That's the front, the doorway(s) are just around the corner! Sounds like it's had several uses in it's time, till it became some sort of building depot/lorry park? The swimming baths were known as Burrough's baths, and was only demolished fairly recently. The memorial plaque from the building is stored at the "Sylvestrian" club, down the road!(that's what I was told, anyway?)

Hi Steve, I think you're right. This looks like a secondary entrance.

Ha, I can just imagine their little faces looking out the window waiting for the school bell to go?

This has got me thinking about the piece of land more or less, next to where the baths were. It's on Scotland rd. itself, and is surrounded by railings, but there's nothing there now? (unless they've built some flat's!)

The name of the school is St Bridgets which I attended for a short while back in the olden days.

It was originally North Corporation School.

However, here is a new book, out just this week with dozens of glossy pics of the Scottie Road area and well worth it.

It's further along , nearer town end , but it's not far from Scottie , about ten minutes on the bus ..
