    Default Playhouse.

Remember the taxi rank, outside the "Playhouse"? It's not that long ago,but surprising how quickly people forget! Adam Faith is starring in "Alfie".

The taxis are in a circle.
    Why?
Because they're parked round the circular underground toilets.

    Great photo.
    Is the date known?

I seem to remember a few underground toilets. I think there was one in Scotland Road and London Road.

I never knew this... thought they'd gone years ago. Was there one by the Rotunda too. Seem to remember that.

I do remember seeing the sign for the one on Scotty Rd, wasn't it filled in though ?

There's still signs for the ones under St John's Garden but wasn't they closed for some unsavoury reason ?

It's great the way, free public toilets disappear for reasons like that. Councils just love any excuse to close down things they can't make at least a little bit of money from

Once the shops have closed, the only options if u're caught short are paying 20p in the cubicles, 30p in Lime St. or buying a drink in a pub and going there.

Funny, but I always go for the pub option...

St. Johns gardens toilets, are still there, but out of use! It's the only part of the gardens where the original railings exist!

Yes, they have been locked up for a while. Spose you have to theses days.
