Yes, the 'stadium' bit certainly doesn't look very big.
It's great for the spectator, has anyone ever sat at the back of the MEN?you might as well not be there.

    Nurses at arena

HUNDREDS of nurses will come to Liverpool for a conference at the city’s new arena and convention centre.

The Royal College of Nursing will bring 800 delegates to Merseyside for its AGM in October next year.

If the event is a success, bosses could bring the RCN Congress to the city, which would mean 5,000 visitors.

RCN organisers were won over by the new £146m facilities being built on the King's Waterfront.

Brian French, RCN conference and events manager, said: “We're so excited about coming to Liverpool with this event, particularly as the city is celebrating its year as European Capital of Culture.”

LIVERPOOL is to be the first city in the UK to play host to a United States hotel brand. The £18m hotel – due to open in early 2008 – will form part of the Kings Waterfront development, and is designed to attract long- stay guests by combining the comforts of home with the convenience of a hotel. continues...

Its always great for Liverpool when we are first to do something etc when its a positive thing of course.I am really worried about the Mann Island project,as i noticed on several Cgi images that it appears to completely ruin views of the three graces,is there any more news on the project?

Default Winter Pops for new arena

SOME of the music industry’s biggest names will be wooed to perform at a Winter Pops festival in the new Liverpool arena.

The week-long event will run from January 13 next year, the day after the Capital of Culture launch party officially opens the Kings Dock venue.

Promoters are promising to secure a line-up of headlining talent for the winter gigs.

Next year’s Summer Pops will also be held at the 10,600 seater arena.

Bob Prattey, chief executive of the Arena and Conference Centre (ACC) Liverpool, said today: “It’s great to be able to make our first announcement about a major musical event in the arena.

“The Winter Pops will be an entirely new entertainment offering for the city while the Summer Pops, taking place for the first time in this fantastic purpose-built venue, promises to be a very special event.

“We expect today’s announcements to be just the first in a series of exciting developments over coming months about the kind of events ACC Liverpool is bringing to the city.”

The deal to stage the pops events has been struck between promoter CMP and ACC Liverpool.

    No public subsidy is involved.

CMP boss Chas Cole said: “We’re delighted to announce the new Winter Pops event which we think will be a major highlight on the city’s entertainment calendar.

“It’s too early to say who will be appearing but we expect to be able to announce one very exciting element of the event very soon.

“January isn’t a traditional touring month in the UK for stars but Liverpool’s Capital of Culture status should help us to attract some great names.

“We’ll begin work on confirming the line-up as soon as this year’s Summer Pops are over.”

Music legends who have previously played at the Summer Pops include the Who, Sir Elton John, Paul Simon and Brian Wilson.

I would really like to see the arena get John Williams (composer) to do a gig or even at the Philharmonic, id love to see those classic movie soundtracks done here, but i very much doubt he will come here
