Ermine tastes much the same as sackcloth when there's nothing left to eat.

    Default Kings Dock Appartments

THIS picture gives an exclusive sneak preview of the swanky flats planned for Kings Dock.

City council planners will study detailed drawings early in the new year, before ruling whether they can be built.

Builder David McLean is behind the housing element of the prestigious Kings Waterfront riverside scheme, centred around a 9,400-seat arena and 1,350-capacity conference centre set to open by 2008.

Architects think the distinctive designs will add an eye-catching contrast to the nearby brick-built Wap-ping warehouses that were converted to residential use 20 years ago.

Lets hope they dont end up any were near as bad as those white appartments that were alowd to be built! How did those get planning permission?!!

CRANES dominate the Liverpool waterfront as the £140m Kings Dock Arena starts to take shape.

These latest pictures show that the structure is well under way after months of below-ground preparation work.

The aim is to ensure the showpiece will be completed in time for Liverpool's European Capital of Culture year of 2008.

THE second hotel set to open on the Kings Waterfront in Liverpool has been revealed as a BDL Staybridge Suites hotel.

A detailed planning application has been submitted by Irish developer and contractor McAleer & Rushe to build the 132-suite hotel.

Permission is being sought to build the luxury hotel on the public piazza that forms part of the 37-acre site.

The Daily Post reported last year that a three-star plus hotel is also planned for the same waterfront. The 310-bedroom Jurys Inn is at the planning stage.

Both hotels should be completed by spring 2008. Outline permission for the hotels was granted in December 2004.

The American Staybridge Suites brand was launched in the UK last year with a plan to build two London hotels set to open later this year.

The masterplan for the Kings Waterfront scheme includes a 9,000-seat arena and 1,350 capacity conference centre set to open by 2008 as well as residential units and retail and leisure space. Construction began last summer.

A partnership of Liverpool Vision, national regeneration agency English Partnerships, Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA), the European Objective One Programme and Liverpool City Council is jointly promoting the development.

Jim Gill, chief executive of Liverpool Vision, speaking on behalf of the Kings Waterfront Partnership, said: "I can confirm that a planning application has been submitted. Staybridge are a US company, relatively new to Europe, and we understand that their hotels are of very good quality.

"It's great news because it's another step on the way for the Kings Waterfront development. We're very happy with the commitment and quality of the two hotel operators involved in the scheme."

Eliot Lewis-Ward, English Partnerships' area director for Merseyside and Cheshire, said: "As well as creating new jobs, these new developments could also potentially provide accommodation for more than 800 visitors to the city during the 2008 celebrations, become a focal point of the city and help attract even more investment."

I had hoped this would have turned out better, but gives some idea of the size of the Kings Dock development.
