    Thumbs up Old Liverpool Markets plus other images tagged with 'market'

    Here are a few images courtesy LRO that are tagged with the word 'market'.

    1) Retail fish market. Queen's Arcade from Lime Street. 1946.
    2) Old Haymarket c.1900. Fruit seller with his stall. Old Haymarket was demolished to make way for the tunnel entrance.
    3) St James Market (?) St James Market was in Great George's Place (now Derby Square). It was demolished in 1899.
    4) Old Haymarket 1864.
    5) Cleveland Square market. An imaginative reconstruction of what late 18th century Liverpool looked like.
    6) Old Haymarket Good street scene - also sign on warehouse 'Lewis Boys Clothing'. 1858.
    7) Albion Street/Old Haymarket 1897. Horse drawn transport + in the left foreground a water trough for the horses. This area was demolished to make way for the tunnel entrance.
    8) Old Haymarket.
    9) Old Haymarket.
    10) Old Haymarket. A photograph of Old Haymarket showing Albion Place, which is the narrow lane that leads off Old Haymarket. There are a number of businesses on Old Haymarket including The Liverpool City Caterers Co. Ltd.; Miss Ann B. Stewart, tobacconist; Maurice Rubens, jeweller, who is advertising a closing down sale; Nobblett's Ltd., confectioners; and Central Temperance bar. 1928.
    11) Market selling live chickens.
    12) Fish Market, Great Charlotte Street 1895.
    13) Richmond Fair. This is a reconstruction of richmond Fair in 1787. It was founded as a market for Yorkshire woollen goods.
    14) James Street Old Fishmarket 1840.

    Nice work Kev.

    Location ID for image 11) "Market selling live chickens." See attachment.

    Also the OS 1848 map lists an "Oyster Market" [Hood Street] which I've also highlighted but have no further information on?

    It was indeed in Great George Place, which is at the end of Great George Street (not Derby Square).
    The David Lewis Hostel was built on the site.
    A great photo. New to me.
