Well almost. The statue on top of the Walker Art Gallery at the moment is a copy. The original is at the Conservation centre.

Thanks again Taffy. I wonder what they'll do with the copy when they've completed the restoration? Would look great in my back garden!

Yes I'm sure it would !!! The original will stay at the Conservation Centre I believe. Same I also think for the statue of Eros taken from Sefton Park.

There are 4 birds visible at the junction of Ullet Road/Aigburth Drive. Two on the shields of the gold soldiers on the Lodge (which has recently been refurbished, and I think extended aswell). There are two birds on the Sefton Park entrance gate but one has had its' neck broken.

    One of the gold soldiers.

    Broken neck.

This pic shows what the neck, of the above bird, should look like.

    Hi Folks

Wonderful photographs and information here, everybody!

Taffy and Kev, in regard to the statue with Liver Bird on the top of the Walker Art Gallery the eroded original of which you, Taff, showed is now in the Liverpool Conservation Centre, there is a similar situation here in Baltimore in regard to the Battle Monument built 1815-1822, commemorating the British attack of 1814 and the American dead in the battle. I was part of an effort to restore the monument but the eroded original is still there. I was told though by one of the conservators that the original should be in a museum and that it is time to put up a replica. Below is a nineteenth century view of the monument. A recent view shows some of the damage (beaks of griffons missing, cracks etc.)

    All the best

    Chris

Not sure how old this Garston lampost is but it has a nice Liverbird. Sited at junction of Island Rd and Clarendon Rd.

    Default Old Martins Bank Liverbird

On Water St Frontage. Interesting juxtaposition of the Liverbird and the grasshopper. The latter being the symbol of Martins Bank

    Hi Taffy
That's the former Martin's bank - it's got their symbol of a grasshopper on it too. The whole building is looking good after its recent clean.
