These are Liverpools two seals from old documents that I've looked at:

The Ancient One (original lost sometime around the Civil War)

    The Newer One

This may not be a Liverbird, but it is in Liverpool.

    Nice, Fortinian and Devo!

Fortinian, the last one you posted looks more like a heron than the cormorant-like Liver Bird. The legs for one thing appear too long and the head appears wrong too. Also I think cormorants eat fish not frogs as this beastie is shown doing. Just my opinion.

There's a cocktail called Squashed Frog I had one in a Tapas bar in fact I had a few!

I think you may be right. The only problem is that I can't find any significance to having a heron on a church. Usually the animals on church buildings have a specific theological meaning. All I can find is a 'crane' or 'stork' which represent 'vigillance' and 'filial duty' respectively.

On the other hand... it might just be a heron because the mason liked them.

    This from the Liverpool Mercury

Yes, that one is a heron. It's on the old Harrison Shipping Line building, now Mersey Chambers that overlooks the park at St Nicholas' Church. There are all sorts of animals carved into that building so I don't think the heron has any significance.

Just noticed that you said it was on a church so maybe not that one after all?

It's very similar to the one over the entrance to the municipal buildings where they also look inwards. I always say they're giving each other the eye!

I've got a Liverpool City RLFC badge with a Liver Bird on it, but I don't think I would be able to get a decent picture of it on here. It's quite small and is gold on a gold background in relief.

Hi Chris if you look again you will see that the bird is on top of a post as they all are in Rodney St,so its just a matter of lining it up with the tower.
