    Default Bascule Bridge.

The bascule bridge,on Regent rd. has been closed for some time now,and still not much sign of it's renovation! I had to laugh at the number of cars, still driving up to it,but you can only get through by foot/bike! There's some scaffolding up on the side of one of the warehouse's,but what for?

The scaffolding went up 3 weeks ago, the plan is to repair the road but not reinstate the bridge, they might give it a coat of paint

Just some concrete on the road and a bit of tarmac and it will be opened

Personally, I can't wait to see it in operation, up, that is. Any old bridge can take traffic.

I understand that it will remain in its fixed position and that it won`t ever be in `operation` (by swinging up and down). Apparently there will be no necessity; even if there were, the newspaper report indicates that it`s no longer possible. Pity.

A pity indeed. Calling it a Bascule is then only about half right.
